Integrating BuddyPress, WordPress MU and bbPress

Goal: Integrate WPMU 2.8.1 - BuddyPress 1.0.3 - bbPress 1.0.1
Assumptions: You have WPMU and BuddyPress working correctly. You know your way around an admin dashboard. You can configure php files.
Note: If something is “In Quotes” it generally means that there’s a button with that text that you should click.

Integrating BuddyPress 1.0, WPMU 2.7.1 and bbPress Alpha 6

Before beginning, you must install Wordpress Multi-User 2.7.1 (WPMU) as well as BuddyPress 1.0.
Remember to save (and upload) your work often when modifying the php files.
1. Download bbPress 1.0-Alpha-6
2. Unzip it and upload the entire bbpress folder to your root directory.
3. Change the name of the directory from bbpress to forums
4. Go to yoursite.com/forums Click “Let’s get started”
5. Enter the same database information that you used while installing WPMU.
6. Click “Show advanced settings”

How To Get New Cookie Keys For WPMU

When installing WordPress Multi-User, secret authentication keys are created and stored in your configuration file. The generated codes are generally a string of mixed up letters and numbers.
To make your cookies more secure, WordPress has created a way to get codes that are even more mixed up than the codes generated during installation.

Integrating WPMU, BuddyPress and bbPress

Update: Please note that this tutorial is for BuddyPress 1.0 RC-2. A new and official release of BuddyPress is now available.
Though the directions within this tutorial will work for the new release, I’ve written a 2nd tutorial that cuts out a few unnecessary steps. The new tutorial can be found here.
